This section will help you decide between LCD or Cube Video Wall

This section also assumes you require a complete solution (monitors, pedestal or mounts and video processing either built-in or external). If you only require the video wall processor (an external video wall processor to go with your own monitors), then click on the Controllers button above and proceed directly to that section.

There are two major Video Wall considerations: Budget and Depth

1) Budget: Professional grade video walls start at $20K and up.

2) Depth: Do you have 2 to 6 feet for rear projection cubes? Or, are you restricted to less than one foot?

The following comparison of Video Wall types will help you decide between a LCD and a Cube Video Wall:

LCD Video Walls
Cube Video Walls

PROS:
• Very bright, 60000 hour lamp life (about 7 years).
• Less than 6" in total depth (includes wall mount).
• 178° viewing angles in both landscape and portrait orientations (best in class).
• Practically zero maintenance.
• Automatic closed-loop color calibration for superior panel to panel color matching.
• 1/2" bezel, 1" gap (best in class).
• Built-in video wall processing (up to a 6x6 in landscape mode or 2x6 in portrait mode).
• VGA, DVI and HDMI (with HDCP decoding) inputs. HD-SDI input is optional.
• Special low heat, sealed LCD panel for 24/7 usage.
• Excellent contrast ratio, color uniformity and panel matching (best in class).
• Robust power supply unit for 24/7 usage.
CubeX CX46 is the only large LCD monitor on the market specifically designed for Video Walls.

CONS:
• 1/2" bezel, 1" gap. CubeX has the largest panel with the smallest bezel on the market today.

REASONS TO BUY:
• Cannot exceed 6" in total depth.
• Limited budget (initial purchase and maintenance). A typical 3x3 CubeX LCD Video Wall is about $65K compared to a similar sized cube Video Wall at $150K.
• 1" gap does not affect visibility. Mostly interested in viewing full motion video or a few static images like an event's list, powerpoints or maps.
PROS:
• Seamless edges (zero bezel) for a clean, uninterrupted look.
• Automatic Video Wall color calibration on some models.

• Excellent contrast ratio.
• Redundant lamps on some models.
Composite, S-Video, VGA and DVI inputs.
• Built-in video wall processing (up to a 6x6).

CONS:
• Costs 2 to 3 times more than a LCD Video Wall.
• Lamps are rated for 6000 to 10000 hours (about one year 24/7). Must establish an annual lamp maintenance budget. Cost is typically $400 to $600 per lamp.
• Viewing angles are about 2/3 to 1/3 of the CubeX CX46 LCD panel. This directly affects brightness and uniformity.
• Video Wall depth can range from 18" to 40" depending on model.
• Some cube models are rear access only, thus increasing your required depth an additional 30".

REASONS TO BUY:
Must have a seamless (zero bezel), large Video Wall and cannot use a front overhead type projector due to object or people interference, such as; a podium, console or people walking in front of the screen. Also, the typical lamp life on a front projector is around 1500 to 2500 hours and many of these units are not rated for usage exceeding 12 hours per day.
